Weight Loss Surgery
I think most of you are familiar with the term weight loss surgery. You might also like to know about the surgery, its procedure, its results, side affects, etc. So this is what I am going to tell you here. Weight loss surgery is the branch of medicine that deals with the treatment of weight loss. Weight loss surgery is usually done there is no way left to reduce the overgrown weight. Weight loss surgery is usually done in cases where weight loss is life saving. But nowadays we find most of the people undergo a weight loss surgery just for the sake of their beauty and physique.
A number of surgical options are available for the treatment of weight loss, each with their advantages and drawbacks. In common, weight loss can be done, but one must consider the side effects and operative risk which sometimes may lead to mortality. Generally, weight loss can be done safely. Weight loss surgery can be grouped in three main categories
- Predominantly malabsorptive surgery: though reducing stomach size also, these surgical procedures are based mainly on malabsorption.
- Biliopancreatic Diversion
- Predominantly restrictive surgery: this surgical procedure mainly reduces stomach size
- Vertical Banded Gastroplasty
- Adjustable gastric band
- Sleeve gastrectomy
- Mixed procedures: applying both techniques concurrently.
- Gastric bypass surgery.
- Sleeve gastrectomy with Duodenal Switch.
